I watched him play for hours. Fun and immersed in a multiplayer experience that I — ever an expert gamer — had never heard of. His character had to go down huge slides in different vehicles: tires, go-karts, surfboards, and even a strange hot dog bun with a sausage included. With each descent, the laughter increased. He interacted with other characters. I was talking. It went up. It was going down. And while the graphics weren't surprising, the experience was.

That day I learned that the one with the slides was just one of the (literally) millions of games offered by the platform. Most of them are created by other users. That you can use the robots, the currency of the game, to buy "premium" experiences or to dress up your avatar with a thousand different objects. That the platform has its own economy and that the creator users of the games earn real money through them.

This is the brief history of ROBLOX rblx land, the game that has also become a collaborative platform and a true entrepreneurship option. In 1989 David Baszucki, a young graduate of Stanford University founded Knowledge Revolution, a physical simulation software company used primarily in the educational field. Its programs allowed students to grab and drag various objects on the screen and see how they behaved by making them interact with each other.

The company was very successful and in 1999 it was acquired by MSC Software Corporation for $ 20 million. Baszucki served as its vice president for five years, but recognizing the potential of simulation software for the video game industry, he decided to found ROBLOX in 2004.

Great video games, such as Portal, Angry Birds or Cut the Rope, are based on the power of simulation software. This is what determines what will happen to an object on the screen when it is subjected to a certain action; the one who dictates the laws of physics that will govern a virtual world.

In 2004 Baszucki partnered with Erik Cassel, a Cornell University graduate and his colleague on Knowledge Revolution, to develop Dynablocks, the beta version of the video game. In 2005 they decided to change the name of the game to ROBLOX, seeking greater user-friendliness and for 2006 they officially launched it on the market.
