I thought "Darkness" was a very interesting poem because it could either be about the end of the world or about the emptiness Byron feels over his divorce. Either way, the imagery and language of the poem is beautiful. I really liked how Byron does put a little bit of hope, in the form of the dog that fights for his master, but ultimately that hope is lost. My favorite part of the poem were the last few lines, "the winds were withered in the stagnant , and the clouds had perished; Darkness had no need of aid from them -- She was the universe." The idea that darkness has completely taken over and not even the clouds or winds can combat her is very depressing, and yet at the same time mysteriously intriguing.
